INCF community blog
The INCF community blog is where we collect news, success stories, information about the INCF Assembly, our workshops, and community activities. Community members are encouraged to submit relevant job openings, write guest posts, review and recap events, and suggest content that they would like to see featured on the blog.
Do you have a success story related to neuroinformatics, standardization, or FAIR and open neuroscience? Are you hiring for a job related to neuroinformatics? Did you attend one of our events and want to do a write-up? Let us know in this form!
From 11–13 May, the FAIR Brain Data Science Bootcamp 2026 brought together 75 researchers and data scientists from across Europe at Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm. Organized by INCF, led by SeRC, and delivered in collaboration with EBRAINS Sweden, the bootcamp was held as a satellite event of the NeurotechEU Innovation Summit, contributing to a week of activities dedicated to innovation, collaboration, and excellence in neuroscience and neurotechnology.
The International Neuroinformatics Coordinating Facility (INCF) and The Transmitter are partnering to host a scientific symposium and panel discussion at FENS Forum 2026 entitled "The Modern Neuroscience Lab in the Age of AI." The symposium will take place on Wednesday, July 8, from 09:45–11:15 in Hall B as part of the General Neuroscience Topics program at FENS Forum 2026.
For many research infrastructures, onboarding is often viewed as a one-time event: a user creates an account, attends an introductory webinar, and begins using the platform. Participants at an INCF hosted workshop on onboarding users for research infrastructures in May 2026 challenged this view. Instead, onboarding was described as a continuous process that extends far beyond first contact.
A new perspective article in Frontiers in Psychology, Bridging the Neuro-AI Chasm: A Framework for Scalable, Contextually Adaptive Training Resources in Large-Scale Brain Data Science, argues that neuroscience education must evolve alongside advances in AI.
Since 2011, INCF has participated in Google Summer of Code, supporting the development of open-source tools for neuroscience and building a sustained global collaboration. We are pleased to welcome 23 contributors, working across 23 projects from 21 collaborating open-source organizations, supported by a diverse and international group of mentors.
A new Special Issue on Human Neuroimaging Educational Programs and Training Resources invites contributions that address the growing need for accessible, high-quality training in an increasingly complex and interdisciplinary field. The manuscript submission deadline is 31 August 2026.
Modern neuroscience is increasingly data-driven. Researchers work with complex datasets that require programming skills for efficient, scalable, and reproducible analysis. At the upcoming FAIR Brain Data Science Boot Camp which will take place at Karolinska Institutet 11 – 13 May 2026.
The GSoC 2026 contributor proposal submission period will officially close on Tuesday, March 31 at 18:00 UTC. After this deadline, no new proposals can be submitted, and existing proposals cannot be modified.
